dc.description.abstract | The research was in attempt to explore characteristics of culture practices
within two small firms in Bien Hoa city following organizational culture model of
Hofstede (1990), from which building a data base for further academic research on
Vietnamese companies’ cultures. Also, the research put effort on exploring the impacts of
those culture characteristics on employee working attitude, here included employee
satisfaction, employee retention, employee motivation, and employee commitment.
Having used qualitative method of collecting and analyzing information, the author
compared and contrasted two companies: Hoang Khanh Ngoc one member
manufacturing Co. Ltd and Le Dai Thang one member trading and service Co. Ltd to find
commonalities and diversities in culture practices of them. Also, thematic analysis
method was employed to analyze and categorize data to find themes and sub-themes,
which contain related culture manifestations of those two companies. The results showed
that Hoang Khanh Ngoc is more a process-oriented, jobs-oriented, parochial, open, loose
control, and normative organization. On the other hand, Le Dai Thang was found likely
to be more results-oriented, employees-oriented, professional, open, loose control, and
pragmatic organization. It was also explored that employee attitude was positively
affected by culture system that provided supports, good communication, and flexible
regulations to employees. At the end, some recommendations were also proposed for
managers of the studied firms as well as other small firms to encourage employee
working attitude using culture practices.
