dc.description.abstractDrug delivery is the process of administering a pharmaceutical compound to achieve a therapeutic effect, delivering drug at controlled rate, slow delivery, targeted delivery are other very attractive methods. In this study, the main goal was the design of mucoadhesive tablets for targeted drug delivery to the colon. The solid dispersion (SD) of Prednisolone and Zein was created by using solvent evaporation method and used as the model drug of core tablets designing. The SD core tablets containing different carbomers, including Carbopol 940 and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose K4M (HPMC K4M) were tested the potential of applying mucoadhesive ingredients for designing sustain release tablets in colon. In addition, the single-coated layer from the combination of zein and Kollicoat MAE 100P for delayed release. Next to, dissolution profiles of coated tablets were performed in dissolution tester in 4 different pH buffers and collected samples were analyzed by using HPLC. In addition, mucoadhesion, swelling and erosion studies of these formulations were also investigated by using dissolution tester in specific mediums. Finally, the morphologies were captured for the comparisons and evaluation. Due to these result, tablets gave delaying drug release at stomach and small intestine then shown the potential for sustain release in large intestine. The tablets which contain HPMC K4M had shown its advantages for colonic delivery, the concentration of 35% HPMC gave the suitable results in the design of sustaining release at colon. This project shown the potential to target the colon and overcome the transit environments and give an idea sustain release.
