dc.description.abstractVietnam is the sixth fastest growing travel destination in the world and the fastest in Asia, according to a report by the World Tourism Organization. In 2017, Vietnam's tourism industry has continued its growth momentum in 2016 and exceeded expectations of the Government for the second consecutive year. In 2017, Total visitor is 86 million arrivals due to 72 million in 2016 which raise 19%, of which 29% rising of international visitors, contributed mainly by 1.3 million additional Chinese visitors. Domestic arrivals increased by 18%. Asia remains the main tourist market for Vietnam, accounting for 76% of total international arrivals, of which China, Korea and Japan are the three largest markets during the past three years, over 50% of foreign tourists to Vietnam. On average, the number of visitors coming from Western countries has increased by only 14% in 2017, with the largest increase of Russian tourists with a 32% increase as tour operators expand their travel packages to Vietnam resorts in winter, as well as the guests and travel agents increasingly know more about the potential of tourism in Vietnam. In the future, with the Visa policy being extended for three years, visitor growth from the five countries included in the policy, as well as the number of visitors coming from the West in general, could be expected. will increase rapidly. In 2018, the Prime Minister of Vietnam and the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism set a target of attracting 15 to 17 million international tourists. In the first five months of this year, Vietnam welcomed 6.7 million visitors, an increase of 27.6% over the same period last year, showing that this target is fully within reach.en_US
