Traffic congestion in cities nowadays has been a negative influence on not only traffic participants but also the environment as well. It limits people’s level of satisfaction and creates lasting engine smoke in the air. This study aims to tackle the traffic congestion problem by using simulation to define the traffic problems and suggest scenarios to find suitable solutions. Furthermore, to optimize the traffic flow, this study focuses on reducing the vehicle waiting time to evaluate the model results. Ly Thai To roundabout is studied and simulated in this study and simulation models is conducted by using Arena simulation software. The result from the existing model stated that the average waiting time for vehicle for entrance NGT (Ngo Gia Tu) is highest of all. Therefore, the first variation of scenario 1, which prevents buses and heavy trucks, is applied for NGT (Ngo Gia Tu) entrance and the waiting time for vehicle at this entrance is reduced by 14.5% but the waiting time for all entrance is only reduced by 2%. Then it is found out that the last variation for scenario 1 where all buses and heavy trucks are prevented reduces the waiting time for all entrance by 13.4%. The last variation of scenario 1 is also concluded to be the best non-investment solution. In case of investment solution, while building a right turn is proved to be insignificant by simulation results, building a bridge between LTT1 (Ly Thai To 1) and LTT2 (Ly Thai To 2) entrance reduce the waiting time for all entrance by 41.5% which can be considered significant depending on many practical aspects. Moreover, this study shows different approaches in conceptual design as well as how simulation tackle traffic problems. This study has made contributions in helping future research in comparison between methods as well as uplift their level of complexity of model to simulate the real system more similarlyen_US
