dc.description.abstractAlthough TCP/IP has been the most important and major protocol for Internet for the past few decades, but when it comes to nowadays high-speed network with the need of transferring large amount of data over transcontinental link, the protocol has shown it limits in terms of link utilization and throughput. The slow response of TCP in fast long distance networks leaves sizeable unused bandwidth in such networks. And this is the motivation for many proposed TCP variants to improve the connection’s throughput by adopting more aggressive congestion control algorithms. In this thesis, we conducted a research on the proposed TCP protocols which are currently being used for high speed networks by investigating their congestion control mechanisms. The performance evaluation of these protocols would be done using simulation scenarios.en_US
